HISTORY OF OUR KENNEL

Sierra Miniature Australian Shepherds was first established in 1995 when we bought Bonza! Mexicali Rose. "Cali" came to us at about 11 weeks old and we immediately fell in in love with her. She has been such an addition to our lives.  We have kept a female pup from some of her litters to expand our breeding program.

Our pups are family raised - they are born in the house and stay inside until they are about four or five weeks old. Then they live in our back yard, with daily contact and attention from us, until they go to their new homes, usually between eight and ten weeks of age. By the time they are six weeks old, they have been introduced to a doggie door, sleep inside in our utility room at night, and using the dog door to go to the bathroom outside. While this does not mean they are housetrained when they leave here, they are certainly well on their way.

We spend a lot of time with our pups before they leave us - keeping in mind that whether they become show, agility, obedience, working, or flyball dogs, they are pets and family members first. We strive to find homes where our pups will be included in family activities and made a part of the household. So far, we have placed our dogs with wonderful, loving homes.  Without exception, every person who has bought a pup from us has marveled at how adaptable these dogs are. However, even though we would like to take credit for their adaptability, the truth is that this is inherent in the breed itself.  Aussies are also very loyal and loving and these dogs will bond with new owners quickly, no matter what the age.  We hope you end up loving your mini aussie as we do ours.
